Diagram of SJT scoring: responses ranked most to least effective by an expert panel, scored against your ranking

Every SJT scenario has a hidden scoring key set by a panel of experienced professionals. They rate each response for effectiveness, and your answer is scored on how closely it matches that consensus - not on a single "correct" option.

When a test asks for the most and least effective response, you earn marks for correctly identifying both extremes. Providers weight items differently, which is why the same answer can score differently across tests. The practical lesson: answer with consistent, professional judgement rather than instinct.

Common questions

Is there a right answer in an SJT?

There is an expert-defined best and worst response, even when several options look reasonable. You are scored against that benchmark.

Can you fail an SJT?

You can score below the employer's threshold. Practising the response style and answering consistently is the reliable way to pass.
